I am in love with hollyhocks. At the height of their magnificence right now, they appear to peer down at shorties like me in a concerned old aunt kind of way.
Truly at home in Suffolk outside thatched cottages, but I think they originally come from the himalayas.

Lovely “old fashioned” flowers – I have never grown hollyhocks – although I have started off some black ones from seed.

I’m mad about hollyhocks too – they give so much back for so little. Saw so many wonderful pastel shades round Woodbrige but I’m trying to confine my collection to red and white – if only there were a blue one.

I let out a long sigh when I saw these pictures. I love Hollyhocks too. I have tried several time to grow them and each time gophers took them down their hole when they were only about one foot tall. I have two more this year that are still only about a foot tall now. I have heard that they take two years to flower, not sure if that is true and with my history of them I could not say for sure. I also love Foxgloves and have been very lucky with these. I generally get two to three years of repeat bloom and they produce a few more plants each year. I have these in my fairy garden where they get shade.
Thank you for visiting my blog on blotanical (Thyme in a Bottle) I will be back to your blog often.
